A chaplain provides prisoners the resources to overcome issues and barriers they face on release. This can be referring them to other services, but they can also assist in connecting them to a Christian mentor. Mentors assist former prisoners to be included in a church community where they can continue practising their faith as well as having a place where they feel safe and supported as they integrate into the wider community. Finding suitable mentors from among your congregation and welcoming ex-prisoners into the life of your church is such a rewarding ministry.
