The generosity of Inside Out Prison Chaplaincy supporters has assisted our dedicated team of volunteer chaplains to continue to follow their call to ministry to people in Queensland prisons.
Starting a relationship with God is life changing for everyone but the further one strays from God prior to this point, the more amazing and inspiring is the change afterwards.
The more a person needs forgiveness, the greater the relief when the burden of guilt is lifted. The greater the web of lies and deceit that entraps someone, the more liberating the freedom that truth brings. The deeper the feelings of rejection and hate a person experiences, the more exhilarating is the joy of finding acceptance and love.
That’s the hope that keeps our loyal pastoral carers going back week after week behind the barbed wire fences. They know the transformation that the light of God can bring to the darkest places. They appreciate the redeeming power of peace in the hearts of people who have so many reasons to be anxious. They understand the precious nature of the gift of the gospel they carry in their hearts.
In many ways the need for chaplaincy has never been greater. The Queensland prison population has increased by around 20% in the past 18 months with no indication that the trend is likely to be reversed any time soon. More volunteers are needed to meet the expectation of Queensland Corrective Services that every prison has at least one chaplain present daily from Monday to Saturday and that a church service be held in every prison on Sundays.
In a culture that closes so many doors to the gospel, it is imperative that we respond to an open and genuine invitation from an organisation that sees the incredible life changing value of Christian pastoral care.
